Skills Pathfinder grew out of real work with schools, educators and organisations — not from a product plan.
The story behind the framework.

The story behind the framework
01
The question that started it all
Eight years ago I asked a simple question: if AI is going to transform every industry, every job and every classroom — what should we be teaching? Not which AI tools to use, but which human capabilities to develop. That question became my life's work.
02
From practice to framework
Working with educators across Finland, Estonia, Sweden and beyond, I noticed patterns. The skills that made teachers irreplaceable were not the ones on most training agendas. Critical thinking, creativity, empathy, collaborative leadership — these compounded in value as AI got more capable. The framework emerged from that observation.
03
What drives me
I believe education is the most important lever we have for shaping the future. When educators are confident, strategic and equipped with the right framework, they do not just survive the AI transition — they lead it. That is what Growth Mindset Builder exists to make happen.
01 · People
Who is behind this
Markku Pelkonen, Growth Mindset Builder / Growth Resilience Oy. Educator, author of the Skills Pathfinder series, and a practitioner who has spent years helping schools, leaders and learners build human capability. The avatar videos on this site are his — an honest use of AI to scale explanation while the judgment stays human.
Shifting beliefs about AI, learning and human potential. Without the right mindset, no tool or skill sticks.
02
Skillsets
Developing the concrete capabilities — critical thinking, creativity, empathy — that define future-ready practice.
03
Toolsets
Practical AI tools and frameworks that amplify rather than replace human capabilities.
04
Culture
Building organisational cultures that sustain growth, innovation and continuous learning.
04 · Framework
Built on 147 skill profiles
Everything here comes from the Skillspathfinder framework: 147 validated skill profiles with definitions, observable behaviors, five-level learning progressions and practice scenarios. The rubrics in the deep self-assessment are those progressions, unedited. This is years of framework work, not a weekend idea.

Already in the field
Each skill and capability theme was selected from real life-skills development and future-readiness projects, then published as the Skills Pathfinder minibook series: the AI-proofing skill field guides plus three thematic volumes on AI readiness, futureproofing and AI vulnerability. The same material runs in educator and leadership programmes in Finland and internationally, including work with the University of Helsinki's HY+ continuing education and international schools.
R1In a preregistered experiment with 453 professionals, ChatGPT reduced the time needed for midlevel writing tasks by 40% and improved rated quality by 18%.
R2In an experiment with 758 consultants, AI users completed 12.2% more tasks and worked 25.1% faster on tasks suited to AI. But on a task beyond AI's capabilities, they were 19% less likely to reach the correct answer.
R3A meta-analysis of 106 experiments found that human–AI combinations performed better than humans working alone on average — but worse than the better of the human or AI working alone. Simply adding AI did not guarantee a better result.
R4In a study of 319 knowledge workers, greater confidence in generative AI was associated with less critical-thinking effort. The researchers found that critical thinking increasingly involves verifying information, integrating AI-generated material and remaining responsible for the work.
This site is the public front door of a system that already exists. Next:
01Team editions, so a school or organisation can see its shared capability profile.
02Printed personal editions of the generated minibook.
03A facilitator toolkit for running the seven-day sprint with a group.
04The self-assessment as a recurring practice rather than a one-time test.
